SUMMARY:Experimental Calligraphy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This playful\, process-focused workshop invites students to explore calligraphy beyond traditional letterforms. Through guided exercises with a cola pen and brush\, participants will experiment with pressure\, rhythm\, texture\, and mark-making to create expressive lines and unexpected surfaces. \nStudents will also work with unconventional tools—such as a dropper\, ruling pen\, and syringe—to produce layered effects\, splatters\, and dynamic strokes that are difficult to achieve with standard tools. The emphasis is on curiosity and exploration rather than perfection\, making this class especially supportive for loosening up\, building confidence\, and discovering a personal visual language. \nThis workshop is suitable for beginners. No prior calligraphy experience is required\, and all materials are provided. \nDates & Times:Wednesday\, March 18 · 10 AM–1PM Sunday\, March 22 · 3–6 PM \nMember $95 / Non Member $110 \nCancellation policy: In the event you must cancel\, refunds can be issued if requested 2 weeks in advance\, minus a $20 processing fee. If you cancel two weeks or less before the workshop date\, we will consider your purchase a donation and will happily issue you a donation receipt. \nDina Ruzha is a local illustrator\, calligrapher\, and lettering artist who tells stories through bold characters\, expressive letterforms\, and color palettes that stop the scroll. \nShe specializes in book covers for romance\, romcom\, romantasy\, and YA — with a particular love for illustrated characters paired with custom hand-drawn titles. Her focus is always on color\, emotion\, and composition so that each cover not only stands out beautifully but also connects instantly with the right readers. \nBeyond illustration\, she is deeply passionate about calligraphy. Her work has been exhibited at the United Nations\, where she was honored to perform live calligraphy and speak as part of their cultural programming. She also shares this craft through workshops\, helping people discover the beauty of the written word and even creating custom commissionslike family trees and marriage certificates. \n\n

I was so inspired and relaxed by the experience\, I even wrote a few poems." - CS\, writer & journaling guide\n \n\n“This was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. I’ve told myself for so long that I am not an artist\, but this is more about having fun and letting the art come to me.” - C.J.\, entrepreneur\n \n“I attended Jennifer Faye's session and it was so delightful! I found a piece of me that has been dormant for much too long -- I felt so much joy\, don't miss out!” -MB\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n  \n\nJennifer Faye Colombo is a watercolor artist inspired mostly by nature\, especially all the beaches\, rivers\, hiking trails and more that Fairfield County provides. She is very passionate about sharing the journey and explorations of watercolors with others\, no matter their level of experience. Creativity is play\, joy\, fun and relaxation\, and that's exactly what Jen shares with others.  For Jen\, it is truly a gift to guide others and watch their stress melt and be surprised as they tap into their own creativity.\nIn addition\, Jen is a creator and designer of card decks\, journals and books both for herself and clients.\nDiane Nickelberg-Barnett is the founder of Grounded Meditation and a successful NYC Real Estate attorney who realized years ago that she needed something to help balance the stress and chaos of her busy and demanding career. SUMMARY:Bruce Museum Tour & Lunch: Georges Braque Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, March 4th\, 10:30am-1pm \nDon't miss this special opportunity to join an exclusive tour with Jordan Hillman\, Bruce Museum associate curator\, of the Georges Braque exhibition\, followed by a private lunch at the museum. \n\n\nGeorges Braque (French\, 1882–1963) once confessed the urge "to touch a thing and not merely see it\,” an impulse that drove his career-long exploration of what he called “tactile space.” Defined by the artist as “the space that separates us from objects\, as opposed to visual space\, which separates objects from one another\,” tactile space was the basis of experiments Braque undertook with Pablo Picasso in the early twentieth century. Their collaboration led to the development of what became known as Cubism\, a style characterized by the compression of multiple perspectives\, the addition of collaged elements (papier collé)\, and the breakdown of forms into geometric shapes.  \nGeorges Braque: Tactile Space traces how Braque’s approaches to tactility\, materiality\, and space developed during his Cubist years (1908–1914) evolved over the next five decades. Expanding Cubism's shift away from traditional illusions of depth\, Braque incorporated materials like sand into his pigments\, applying them with visible brushstrokes to place greater emphasis on the painted surface.  \n\n\n\n\nDrawn entirely from the Régis Krampf Collection\, this selection of works—many never before exhibited—reveals how Braque anticipated and even originated the preoccupation with surface and space that came to define twentieth- and twenty-first century art. \n\n\nPlease meet at the Bruce Museum\, 1 Museum Drive\, Greenwich by 10:20am. \nCost: $65 for Carriage Barn members | $80 for non-membersIncludes lunch.  Register below. Space is limited.  \n \nPlease note registration and payment for this program is non-refundable. In the event you must cancel\, we will consider your purchase a donation and will happily issue you a donation receipt.

SUMMARY:Flashes of Brilliance Photography Book Talk (via ZOOM)
DESCRIPTION:NOW VIA ZOOM\nThe genius of early photography and how it transformed art\, science and history\nThis presentation will now take place via zoom\, please register and you will recieve a link to join at 6:15pm.  Signed books can be ordered after the presentation. \nAnika Burgess\, New York Times freelance photo editor will talk about her new book which tells the story of the wildest experiments in early photography and the wild people who undertook them.  She will be in conversation with photographer Jane Beiles. \n\nToday it’s routine to take photos from an airplane window\, use a camera underwater\, or watch a movie or view an X-ray. But the photographic innovations more than a century ago that made such things possible were experimental\, revelatory\, and sometimes dangerous―and many of the innovators\, entrepreneurs\, and inventors behind them were memorable eccentrics. In Flashes of Brilliance\, New York Times photo editor Anika Burgess engagingly blends art\, science\, and social history to reveal the most dramatic developments in photography from its birth in the 1830s to the early twentieth century deftly illustrating how the rise of a new art form transformed culture and our view of the world. \nAnika Burgess is a writer and photo editor. She has been published in The New York Times\, The New Yorker\, and Atlas Obscura. Anika has won a Front Page Award from the Newswomen’s Club of New York and has presented at Photoville New York.  \nJane Beiles is a commercial and editorial photographer based in Fairfield\, Connecticut who has contributed to over 100 features for the New York Times primarily for the HOME\, DESIGN and TRAVEL sections. Her work has been published by Elle Décor\, Architectural Digest\, the Wall Street Journal and hundreds of other print and digital titles. \nFREE for Carriage Barn members or with book pre-order.  $10 for non-members. \n\nElegantly written … Flashes of Brilliance] is also a lot of fun. … Through painstaking research and her obvious love of the medium\, Burgess succeeds in reminding us how special this ‘small miracle of chemistry\, optics\, and light’ really is.\n— Michael Patrick Brady\, Washington Post \nAn entertaining romp through the whirlwind years of early photography. … By tracing how the technology developed\, Flashes of Brilliance reminds readers what a marvel photography is.\n— Angelina Torre\, Wall Street Journal

SUMMARY:Winter Break Design Camp with Dina Ruzha (Ages 10+)
DESCRIPTION:Winter Break Design Camp (Ages 10+)\nFebruary 17–20 | Tuesday–Friday | 9:30 AM–12:00 PM \nThis hands-on Design Camp introduces children to design as a way of thinking — not just drawing. Over four mornings\, students will work on two complete creative projects that combine imagination\, structure\, and problem-solving. \nProject 1: Create a Book\nStudents will design and hand-build their own hardcover book from scratch. They will learn how a book is structured — cover\, spine\, endpapers\, title page\, chapters — and create a finished book with 10 designed spreads using drawing\, collage\, and typography. Each child chooses their own theme\, such as food\, travel\, or personal interests. \nProject 2: Branding & Packaging\nStudents will step into the role of designers by creating a small brand. They will invent a name\, design a logo\, and apply it across different formats — for example\, a café concept with custom coffee cup designs\, or a clothing brand with original graphics for tote bags and T-shirts\, all developed in line with the brand idea. \nThroughout the camp\, students learn how ideas turn into visual systems\, how design communicates meaning\, and how to present a finished project. \nWhy this camp? \n\nDevelops creative and critical thinking\nEncourages independence and confidence in decision-making\nIntroduces real design processes in an age-appropriate way\nEach student leaves with two complete design projects\n\nGroup size:\nA small group of up to 8 students to ensure individual attention.\nSpaces are limited. \nSchedule:\nFebruary 17–20 (Tuesday–Friday)\n9:30 AM–12:00 PM\, with one short break\nNo prior design experience required. \n$300 / Pls register below \nAbout the Instructor Dina Ruzha \nDina is an illustrator\, designer\, and lettering artist with a strong focus on visual storytelling\, typography\, and layout. Her professional work centers on book and editorial design\, in which illustration and type are integrated to create clear\, expressive\, and well-structured visual narratives. \nShe has extensive experience teaching illustration\, lettering\, and design to both adults and children through workshops\, multi-week courses\, and design camps. Dina emphasizes core design fundamentals such as composition\, typography\, color\, and spacing\, guiding students through a thoughtful process from concept to finished project. \nHer work has been exhibited internationally\, including at the United Nations\, where she has also participated as a live calligraphy artist and speaker. Through her teaching\, Dina helps students understand how designers think and make visual decisions\, encouraging creativity grounded in structure and intention. \n\n  \n\n
