Outdoor Installations

The Carriage Barn Arts Center is accepting proposals for temporary public solo and group exhibitions / installations to be installed in our 1,200sq.ft. open courtyard. Work should be able to stay on site for 2-3 months and should activate the entire courtyard while considering the scale, architecture and use of the space. Proposals will be selected by our Exhibitions Committee on the basis of creativity, interactivity and structural integrity.

* Creativity/interactivity: Your work should be visually engaging and invite viewers of all ages to enter the court yard to experience the work further.

* Structural Integrity: Your work must be able to withstand three months of exposure to weather as well as unsupervised interaction from passers-by and visitors to the Carriage Barn Arts Center (note that Waveny Park closes nightly from 11pm-dawn).

Receiving and Removal of Work: The artist will be responsible for transporting their work to and from the Art Center.

Installation: The artist will be responsible for installing and de-installing their artwork.  The Carriage Barn may be able to coordinate local assistance.

Publicity:  The Carriage Barn will publicize the installation of the work through our regular notices and stories to local media outlets, our email database of 5000 as well as on our website.  The Carriage Barn is located in New Canaan’s Waveny Park, and the courtyard is visible to park visitors and frequently in use for Carriage Barn Arts Center exhibits and events.

Sales: Sculptures may be for sale, and/or commission information will be made available.  The Carriage Barn Arts Center will receive a 30% of sale/commission resulting from the exhibit.

Stipend: A stipend may be available, with the expectation that the artist participate in an educational community program.

Insurance: Liability insurance will be provided by the Carriage Barn Arts Center.

Timeline: Submissions will be reviewed / accepted on a rolling basis.
