Tour of Warhol’s Thirty Are Better Than One at the Brant Foundation in New York
Tuesday, May 9th at 11:30am
Join us for a Carriage Barn group visit to the Brant Foundation in New York City. Don’t miss this opportunity to have a first glance viewing of the new Andy Warhol exhibition before it opens to the public.
The Brant Foundation is thrilled to present Thirty Are Better Than One, an exhibition showcasing over 100 works by Andy Warhol, within its East Village walls. Drawn almost entirely from The Brant Collection, the exhibition will examine Warhol’s immeasurable contribution to art, while exploring his own relationship with the art establishment and oversaturation of media within contemporary society. Curated by Peter M. Brant, Thirty Are Better Than One, which takes its name from Warhol’s 1963 canvas depicting 30 scaled-down, silk-screened images of Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, will survey the artist’s creative evolution; from his 1950s works completed while working as a commercial illustrator, to 1960s canvases, which begin to shape Warhol’s instantly recognizable silkscreens, to the 1970s’ experimentation with abstraction, and finally into the 1980s when Warhol explores the subjects of morality and religion.
Please meet the group at the Brant Foundation [421 East 6th Street, New York, NY 10009 – between First Avenue and Avenue A] by 11:25am. Recommended trains: 9:38am from New Canaan to Grand Central or the 10:02am from Stamford. Tour is approximately 1 1/2 hours. Please let us know if you would like lunch recommendations to eat in the neighborhood following the foundation visit. We also suggest an afternoon visit to see the Warhol exhibition at Skarstedt Gallery at 20 East 79th Street.
