A comprehensive exhibit showcasing the achievements, careers, designs and personal accomplishments of the architects at the center of New Canaan’s modern movement.

Curated by architect Alan Goldberg FAIA, the exhibit includes twelve separate displays consisting of models, vintage material, original drawings, personal drafting tools and belongings, and furniture and furnishings.  The centerpiece is a 40-foot long timeline containing 96 vintage photographs of 68 key projects.  Featured architects include Richard Bergmann, Marcel Breuer, Victor Christ-Janer, Alan Goldberg, Landis Gores, John Johansen, Philip Johnson, John Black Lee, Gary Lindstrom, Eliot Noyes, Laszlo Papp and Hugh Smallen.   “Visitors will be immersed in the community of architects who lived, worked, and helped shape New Canaan’s landscape — and influenced architecture throughout the world” says curator Alan Goldberg.

New Canaan Modern Architects: 50 years of Achievement opened with a private preview event for exhibit sponsors, patrons and contributors on Friday, November 3 from 6-8pm.
The preview party is generously supported by Connecticut Cottages & Gardens,  Palmer’s Events & Catering and New Canaan Wine Merchants and Charter Oak Brewing Company.

To compliment the exhibit at the Carriage Barn Arts Center, the Historical Society is hosting a lecture with Bob Gregson, a roundtable discussion led by Hilary Lewis, curator of the Phillip Johnson Glass House, and coordinating a modern open house tour.
