Calligraphy Workshop ‘Note to Yourself’

October 8 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join Dina Ruzha, local illustrator, calligrapher and lettering artist at the Carriage Barn for a morning of beauty, elegance and creativity!

Sign up for this special introductory class on Wednesday, October 8 or Sunday October 12.

Note to Myself is a 3 hour calligraphy workshop designed for adults who want to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and create something meaningful with their own hands. Using a pointed pen, participants will learn the basics of modern calligraphy while writing a personal “note to self” — a short phrase or wish such as “Be happy” or “Stay calm and peaceful.”

What We’ll Cover in this Workshop:

– Begin with an introduction to the pointed pen — how to hold it and control ink flow.
– Practice simple exercises to get comfortable with strokes and rhythm.
– Progress to writing words and short affirmations.
– Create a personal hand-lettered card or bookmark with a chosen phrase — a keepsake to carry, gift, or place in a favorite book.

In today’s busy world, this workshop offers more than just learning calligraphy. It’s an opportunity to put the phone aside, engage the hands and mind in a mindful practice, and enjoy the meditative calm of slow writing. Participants leave not only with a beautiful handmade piece, but also with the experience of quality time spent for themselves.

Every participant will take home a hand-lettered “note to self” — a unique reminder of calm, positivity, and the joy of creating with one’s own hands.

Members $95 / Non Members $110

Dina Ruzha is a local illustrator, calligrapher, and lettering artist who tells stories through bold characters, expressive letterforms, and color palettes that stop the scroll.

She specializes in book covers for romance, romcom, romantasy, and YA — with a particular love for illustrated characters paired with custom hand-drawn titles. Her focus is always on color, emotion, and composition so that each cover not only stands out beautifully on digital storefronts but also connects instantly with the right readers.

Beyond illustration, she is deeply passionate about calligraphy. Her work has been exhibited at the United Nations, where she was honored to perform live calligraphy and speak as part of their cultural programming. Today, she also shares this craft through calligraphy workshops, helping people discover the beauty of the written word and even creating custom commissions like family trees and marriage certificates.

Her love for travel and exploring places with heart has led me to create illustrated maps — capturing food, people, and lifestyle with warmth, detail, and charm.
