Introduction to Encaustic Photography with Rebecca Dunn

February 21 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

This beginner-friendly workshop offers a hands-on introduction to encaustic photography for anyone new to working with encaustic wax.

In this 2 hour exploratory class, artist Rebecca Dunn guides participants through the fundamentals of encaustic techniques and the many creative possibilities of this rich, tactile medium. Students will learn how encaustic wax can be layered with photographs, tinted with pigments, and manipulated to create depth, texture, and luminous surfaces.

The workshop will cover essential skills including proper photo preparation, applying and fusing wax, adding color, and creating texture. We’ll also discuss heating methods, safe handling of materials, and where to source supplies so you can continue working on your own after class.

Participants are encouraged to bring any additional items they’d like to experiment with. After registering, please email two photographs you’d like to use in class (landscape images are recommended). Pls send to [email protected]Photos will be mounted onto wood panels in advance and ready to work on. If you don’t have images to bring, a selection will be available for you to choose from.

Each participant will receive 2- 6×8 inch wood panels to work on during the workshop and will take their finished pieces home at the end of class.
