What is Make Music Day?
Make Music Day is a global celebration of music held on June 21st.
Diverging from traditional music festivals, Make Music Day welcomes participants from all walks of life. Musicians ranging from amateurs to professionals come together in streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers.
This event is free of charge and open to the public.
How did Make Music Day Start?
Originating in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique. It is now observed in over 1,000 cities across 120 countries.
In 2023, the inaugural Make Music New Canaan event was organized by the non-profit 501(c)3 organization, The Carriage Barn Arts Center, located in Waveny Park, New Canaan.
This year, The Carriage Barn Arts Center is partnering with the New Canaan Library to bring Make Music Day to New Canaan.

What is Happening in New Canaan?
Make Music New Canaan will take place on June 21,2024 at the New Canaan Library and in various venues around town.
This event promises to offer a delightful blend of free public musical gatherings where friends and neighbors can come together to enjoy an abundance of music in and around New Canaan with the support of the Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts.
Morning Schedule
- 10:00 – 10:30 am pre-school singalong with Meghan Murphy Gould & music related story from Miss Marie of NC Library. All families and children are welcome to join.
Acoustic Session, 3-4:40pm Library Terrace
- 3:00 pm, there will be an Acoustic Session featuring performances on the keyboard, guitar, instruments, and vocal showcase for 10-minute slots on the New Canaan Library terrace:
