ART CALL: The Carriage Barn Arts Center, home to the New Canaan Society for the Arts, is partnering with LiveGirl for the 5th year to host “She Is Rising,” an art exhibit, showcase and celebratory event.  A portion of proceeds will benefit LiveGirl, a nonprofit girls leadership organization that provides year-round leadership development and mentoring in Connecticut.  Submissions by local and regional artists are invited in all media that represent an expression of female power.”  Works of all sizes will be considered.
 
Selected works will be exhibited and available for sale in the gallery, through an online showcase on at carriagebarn.orggoLiveGirl.org and via social media, PR, advertising, email campaigns, etc.
 
Artwork will be evaluated and selected by the Exhibit Advisory Committee including:

Ashley Prymas, founder of PLUCKY –  a platform that encourages new and avid collectors to support emerging women artists by providing direct access to original work by exceptional artists. Ashley has 20 years experience working in marketing and development at museums including the Guggenheim, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Cooper-Hewitt, Peabody Essex, Museum for African Art, and ICA Boston.  
    

IMPORTANT DATES: Submission Period: March 15 – May 1, 2022 Notification (by email): Tuesday, May 10, 2022  Delivery: May 25 (4pm-6pm) & May 26 (10am-3pm) Pick-up: June 16/17

SUBMISSION FEES: Submission fees directly support our operations. Become a Carriage Barn member today for reduced entry fees! members/students: $15 for up to 3 entries. non-members: $25 for up to 3 entries.

SPECIFICATIONS: Work delivered to the gallery must be installation-ready. All two-dimensional works and wall sculptures must be wired or cleated with a beveled edge on the cleat for hanging. Works will be displayed on easels or  walls using the Walker hanging system (nails and screws are not drilled into the walls).  Saw tooth hangers and small wire loops on the back of inexpensive frames are not acceptable along with scratched glass or plexi-glass, poorly constructed frames and poorly cut mats. Sculpture must be presented in a permanent, non-fragile medium. All sculpture must be delivered fully assembled and presented in a permanent, non-fragile medium.  

SALES: For any works sold, artists receive 50% of the sale price and 50% will benefit LiveGirl and the Carriage Barn Arts Center. Artists will be paid by check at the end of the exhibit.

LIABILITY AND INSURANCE: While all care will be taken while art is being exhibited in any NCSA sponsored exhibition, NCSA assumes no responsibility for any damage to the artwork during delivery, installation, and de-installation including, by way of example but not limitation, normal wear and tear, such as minor nicks to frames or scratches to Plexiglas. NCSA will not be liable for work not claimed after specified pick-up dates and times.   As a condition for exhibiting work in any NCSA exhibition, the exhibiting artist acknowledges by executing this agreement that NCSA assumes no responsibility for theft or other catastrophic loss beyond the applicable limits of NCSA’s insurance coverage. Except to the extent set forth in a separate written agreement signed by both the Exhibitor and NCSA, and subject to applicable deductions, insurance coverage cannot exceed 50% of the market value of any particular item, with the understanding that the exhibitor’s requested price may not be determinative with regard to market value for insurance purposes.

IMAGE USE RIGHTS: Artist’s recognition is provided with any use. By submission for jurying, artists whose submissions are chosen for the exhibition grant The Carriage Barn Arts Center the right to use their images for the purpose of promoting the artist, promoting the Center’s programs, promoting exhibitions and subsequent display on the Center’s website of current and past exhibitions. Promotions and images may also be placed on social networks with artist credit.
