The Frick Re-Opens: An In-Depth Zoom Lecture with Page Knox

September 9, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Tuesday, September 9 at 6:30pm: Please join art historian Page Knox for a one-hour Zoom lecture on the long-awaited reopening of The Frick Collection in New York City.

Closed since 2020, the Frick has reopened its doors with a beautifully renovated building and an exciting expansion. For the first time, ten second-floor galleries—previously private—are now open to the public. Henry Clay Frick’s 1914 Fifth Avenue mansion, now glowing with “a deft and sensitive expansion worthy of a New York treasure” (The New York Times), offers visitors a richer and more immersive experience than ever before.

The museum’s iconic Old Master paintings have returned to their original settings, while the newly opened upstairs galleries allow visitors to explore what were once the Frick family’s private bedrooms, now showcasing Chinese porcelain, Renaissance medals, and works by Boucher and Constable.

As part of this historic reopening, the Frick presents a landmark special exhibition: Vermeer’s Love Letters. This unprecedented installation brings together the Frick’s Mistress and Maid, the Rijksmuseum’s The Love Letter, and the National Gallery of Ireland’s Woman Writing a Letter, with Her Maid—uniting these three masterpieces in a single gallery for the first time. The exhibition invites viewers to consider Vermeer’s recurring themes of letter writing, intimacy, and the nuanced depiction of women across social classes.

The lecture will take place via Zoom and will last approximately one hour. If you’re unable to attend live, a recording will be available and shared with registrants.

Whether you’ve already visited the Frick or it’s on your list, you won’t want to miss this fascinating exploration of a museum transformed —and a new chapter in the life of one of New York’s cultural treasures.
