Salsa & Sangria Dance Night

Experience the living history of multicultural exchange through the energetic pulse of salsa music and vibrant dance performance! 

Performers from the Bodies Never Lie dance company, comprised of professionals from New York City and international guest artists, join us for this special event.  Set to recordings of music by the renowned record label, Putumayo, and ‘the Queen of Salsa’, Celia Cruz.

Between performances, guests are welcome to join a lively group salsa lesson led by Jessica Ruhlin, a teacher from New York City Ballet and Carriage Barn Member Manager. A guest duo will demonstrate and break down elements of partner dances and an 87-year-old international artist will share authentic dance styles and stories from growing up in Colombia.  

Sangria tasting courtesy of Chef Luis at 5:30pm, dance performance begins at 6pm.

Bodies Never Lie dance company is a collective under the artistic direction of Founder, Jessica Ruhlin. Created as a pushback to a developing disability from Type One diabetes, the company makes performance work utilizing the moving body as a method of communication rather than aesthetic pictures. Since its inception in 2021, BNL has received funding from New York Foundation for the Arts, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. BNL has performed at festivals, concerts, and venues across the Northeast region including Jimmy Soho, The Park Avenue Armory, NDEO Conference, and New York Fashion Week. The company is currently in residence at the Williamsburg Opera House, and in production with the international event team Fever and Candlelight Concerts and will be in residence at the Mouin Belle artist residency in Perigord, France this summer.

Morgan Lamb has an extensive repertoire including: Table of Silence Project 9/11, Dance ARIS (Artist Residence in the Smokies), Radio City Music Hall, City Center, Dixon Place, Dance Theatre of Harlem, The Williamsburg Opera House, and The Soho Playhouse. Jessica Ruhlin has danced with ballet companies including Louisville Ballet, St. Louis Ballet, and with the Mariinsky Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia, and performed internationally in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Argentina, and Uganda.  Emma Blue Russo is a Dominican- American dancer, choreographer, and teacher currently serving as dance director at Union City School and adjunct with Wagner College. Kate Griffler is currently dancing and choreographing for multi-media artist Carrie Able and also dancing for choreographer Joshua Lang. Nancy Ynchaustegui a professional Latin and Ballroom dancer with over 25 years of experience, passionate about sharing the culture, music, and dances of Afro-Caribbean culture
