Lunchtime Drop-In at Jean Jacobs Gallery
Wednesday, April 26th at 12 noon
Take a midday “art break” and meet us at New Canaan’s Jean Jacobs Gallery (84 Main Street, New Canaan) for a little art + culture. On view is a group exhibition In Between with works by established artists including Josef Albers, Marc Chagall and artists from the gallery’s roster.
“Jean Jacobs Gallery presents In Between, a cross current selection of historical and contemporary art that articulates an almost surreal moment of experience in the space defined by the coexistence of the two idioms. Gathered works by School of Paris masters Marc Chagall and Salvador Dali are concurrently exhibited with established artists Josef Albers, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Donald Sultan, and Roy Lichtenstein.
Curated by Jacob Herman these august artists are interlaced with contemporary gallery painters, Aesther Chang, Alexandra Squire, Sophia Jortner, Michael DesRosiers, Eric Minter, and John Zoller to reflect common threads of color and concept. Married together this intoxicating mix of artists speak out creating a dreamscape where time and circumstance are suspended.
Focal dots float from one work to the next, similarly colors appear connecting compositions only to fade away to resurgent memory. In the world of In Between, everything is at once present and then found in echo. The presented artworks find their own footing, but having done so, their self-identity is soon surrendered to a complex cocktail of interaction pervading the space between them.”
